In the process of processing documents at the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration at Ben Gurion Airport, new immigrants are given a referral to be assigned to one of the health insurance funds to receive the entire list of medical services in Israel.
Health insurance funds are a symbiosis of a network of clinics, hospitals and insurance companies directly, which insure all Israeli citizens without exception. An Israeli citizen can receive medical services only through the health insurance fund (“kupat holim”). Health insurance is paid for through contributions to Bituah Leumi (National Insurance Institute).
There are four health insurance funds in Israel:
You can choose any of these health insurance funds - they all have basic health insurance (analogous to compulsory medical insurance) and approximately the same range of services.
The final registration of attachment to the health insurance fund occurs during the first visit of the new repatriate to the selected institution.
